And there are many good lines of dialog made in the script:
1. The Joker: Do I really look like a man with a plan, Harvey? I don't have a plan. The mob has plans, the cops have plans. You know what I am, Harvey? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do if I caught one. I just *do* things. I'm a wrench in the gears. I *hate* plans. Yours, theirs, everyone's. Maroni has plans. Gordon has plans. Schemers trying to control their worlds. I am not a schemer. I show schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are. So when I say that what happened to you and your girlfriend wasn't personal, you know I'm telling the truth.
2. The Joker: It's a schemer who put you where you are. You were a schemer. You had plans. Look where it got you. I just did what I do best-I took your plan and turned it on itself. Look what I have done to this city with a few drums of gas and a couple bullets. Nobody panics when the expected people get killed. Nobody panics when things go according to plan, even if the plans are horrifying. If I tell the press that tomorrow a gangbanger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will get blown up, nobody panics. But when I say one little old mayor will die, everyone loses their minds! Introduce a little anarchy, you upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I am an agent of chaos.
3. The Joker: [to police officer] Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the...little..emotions. And..you see..in their last moments...people show you who they really are. So, in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which one of them were cowards?
4. The Joker: [to Batman] We really should stop fighting, we'll miss the fireworks!
5. The Joker: The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules!
6. The Joker: See, I'm not a monster...I'm just ahead of the curve.
7. Two-Face: You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time. But you were wrong; the world is cruel, and the only morality in a cruel world....is chance.
8. The Joker: [to Batman] Kill you? I don't want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, you... you complete me.
9. Harvey Dent: You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain.
10. The Joker: I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger.
I must say Heath Ledger's performance was really so disturbingly good! His performance is Oscar worthy. One said he did not play The Joker in the movie, he IS the Joker.
This movie is highly recommended. You would see the psychological conflicts within Batman (...and you would know why he's being called The Dark Knight instead of the heroic Batman in the movie), as well as the twisted mind of the Joker that makes you think that he's mad but not completely insane at all.
This is a dark movie.
